Randolph T. Barker is a senior counsel for the Abbott Nicholson law firm. In his practice he represents businesses, individuals and municipalities in complex commercial, real estate, employment and probate litigation matters. He also serves as outside general counsel to several businesses and nonprofit organizations, advising them on matters related to formation, daily operations, regulatory compliance, and protection of intellectual property. Additionally, Mr. Barker is known for his expertise with defending law enforcement agencies and police officers against claims of excessive or unreasonable force, false arrest, and police brutality.

As a mediator certified by the Michigan Supreme Court, Mr. Barker is often called upon by trial court judges and attorneys to facilitate resolution of civil disputes. He has written several articles about mediation, employment and real estate, and also serves as faculty to the Institute of Continuing Legal Education, among other business and professional education groups.

Because he is also a licensed Michigan Real Estate Broker, his clients receive added value in the form of a unique industry perspective to both routine and complex real estate transactions and litigation matters, including sales, leases, financing, land contracts, real property purchases, construction liens, boundary disputes and property tax appeals.

Among multiple volunteer positions with non-profit organizations, Mr. Barker currently serves on the Board of Directors of the Detroit Association of Realtors, which recognized him as “Realtor of the Year” for coordinating its “DAR University” professional education programs. He also coaches youth baseball and is a leader with the Boy Scouts of America.

Mr. Barker earned his law degree, cum laude, from the University of Toledo of Law, and his bachelor’s degree from Eastern Michigan University.

He resides in Ypsilanti, MI.
