Mary P. Nelson / Shareholder
Mary P. Nelson is a shareholder of the firm who specializes in real estate and business transactions, including mergers and acquisitions, real estate transactions, financing and general corporate representation, and serves as chairperson of the Firm’s Business Section.
She has extensive experience advising closely held businesses on commercial transactions, real estate development, leasing, financing arrangements and succession planning. She has represented developers of chain stores in their acquisition, construction and leasing of sites; the due diligence, negotiation, documentation, financing and closing of complex business acquisitions; the sale of businesses to publicly held companies, and numerous real estate and business transactions, including stock reorganizations, mergers and asset-based acquisitions.
Ms. Nelson was admitted to the Michigan Bar in 1980. She was named a partner of Abbott Nicholson in 1998.
She earned her law degree at Wayne State University Law School, where she was a member of the Wayne State University Law Review, and a bachelor’s degree at Wayne State University.
Ms. Nelson authored “Choosing the Right Business Entity, Advising Closely Held Businesses in Michigan,” published by the Institute of Continuing Legal Education in 2000, and contributed to “Michigan Basic Practice Handbook (Fifth Edition),” published by ICLE in 2005.
Ms. Nelson lives in Detroit.
