Mr. Malis regularly assists business owners and professionals in the formation and structure of their entity, the acquisition of an entity, its day-to- day operations and the disposition of the entity. He also assists business owners in the transition of their organization to the next generation of owners, which often includes income, estate and gift tax strategies and sophisticated estate planning techniques.

With the practice of medicine becoming an increasingly complex business, Mr. Malis counsels medical practices on issues related to fraud and abuse, and patient privacy laws, and negotiated agreements between health care professionals and organizations.

Mr. Malis joined Abbott Nicholson as a partner in 2007, and is a former managing partner. He was admitted to the Michigan Bar in 1981 and is a member of its Business/Corporate Law, Probate & Estate Planning, Health Care Law, Master Lawyers and Taxation sections. He is also chairperson of the committee on taxation for the U.S. members of Meritas, the global legal services alliance. In that position, he has presented on the new estate and income tax basis reporting rules (June 2016), and on IRS proposed regulations under code section 2704 that concern discount/valuation planning (September 2016). He has also presented to the Wayne County (MI) Family Law Bar Association on the tax aspects of divorce (April 2016). Mr. Malis earned his law degree, cum laude, from the Detroit College of Law, a master’s degree in Tax Law from Wayne State University Law School, and his bachelor’s degree from Wayne State University.

He lives in Grosse Pointe Farms, Mich.
