Thomas R. Quilter III is senior counsel to the Abbott Nicholson firm focusing on business planning, corporate law and estate planning. He is one of the firm’s founding partners.

Mr. Quilter acts as a business counselor and confidant to business owners and entrepreneurs. He advises clients on business formation, operations and succession planning. He has represented clients in numerous merger and acquisition transactions. He also has a significant practice in estate planning for high net worth individuals and business owners.

Mr. Quilter was admitted to the Michigan Bar in 1968 and is one of the four partners who founded the Abbott Nicholson firm in 1977. He is a fellow of the Michigan State Bar Foundation.

He is active in the Financial and Estate Planning Council of Metropolitan Detroit Inc. and served on many boards of charitable and civic organizations. He has a long affiliation with the prestigious Detroit Athletic Club, having served as a board member, committee chair and president.

Mr. Quilter earned his law degree and a master of laws at Wayne State University, and a bachelor’s degree in Business Administration from John Carroll University.

He and his wife live in Grosse Pointe, Mich., and have two adult children.
