John R. Nicholson was a founding member of the law firm of Abbott, Nicholson, Quilter, Esshaki & Youngblood, P.C. in 1977.  His primary practice areas include Business Planning, Corporate Law, Mergers and Acquisitions, and Estate Planning.  John lives in Grosse Pointe Farms, is married and has two grown children and six grandchildren.  John received his B.A. from Brown University in 1963 and his law degree (J.D.) from Wayne State University Law School in 1966.  He has extensive experience and expertise in business planning, mergers and acquisitions and estate planning.

 John is Chairman of the Board of Selective Micro Technologies LLC (2009 to present). John is also President of the Leslie L. Squires Foundation, Bay City, Michigan (1988 to present).He is currently a Board member of On My Own of Michigan. John is an active member of St. John's Episcopal Church, Detroit, Michigan and currently a Vestry member. John was President of Grosse Pointe Cable, Inc. (GPC) from 1992 to 1995 and negotiated the sale of GPC to Comcast in 1995. He served as the Village Clerk of Grosse Pointe Shores and as a member of the Board of Tax Review for a number of years. John is a past Chairman of the Board of the Fellowship of Christians in University and Schools (1900-1996).  John was a member of the Ecclesiastical Court for the Diocese of Michigan (1995-2000). He was President (1979) and a Board member (1974-1980) of the Grosse Pointe War Memorial Association.John wrote "Multiple Benefits of a Computerized Inventory System" and "Legal Administrators - Helping Lawyers Manage," which were published in the Michigan Bar Journal.

John holds an "AV" rating from Martindale-Hubbell, the highest rating awarded attorneys by their peers. He was also recognized as a Top Lawyer in Metro Detroit – 2010 by DBusiness Magazine.
