George M. Malis is a shareholder of Abbott Nicholson where he is a member of the Corporate, Tax/Pension, and Estate Planning practice groups. Mr. Malis has been engaged in the private practice of law for over 30 years, and concentrates his practice on tax and business planning for individuals and entities such as corporations, limited liability companies, partnerships, and tax exempt organizations, along with the unique business issues that regulate the practice of medicine.
Mr. Malis regularly assists business owners and professionals in the formation and structure their entity, the acquisition of an entity, its day-to-day operations (including bank related financing transactions) and the disposition of the entity. Mr. Malis also assists business owners in the transition of their organization to the next generation of business owners, which often times includes income, estate and gift tax strategies and sophisticated estate planning techniques.
Also, from a business perspective, the practice of medicine has become increasingly complex. Mr. Malis has counseled numerous medical practices on issues related to "fraud and abuse" (the Stark laws) and HIPAA compliance issues. Mr. Malis has negotiated numerous agreements between health care professionals and organizations. For example, Mr. Malis was instrumental in representing a large private practice in the formation of, as well as the continued operation of, a major cancer center in the Detroit Metropolitan area.

Mr. Malis holds an "AV" rating from Martindale-Hubbell, the highest rating awarded attorneys by their peers. He was also recognized as a Top Lawyer in Metro Detroit – 2010 by DBusiness Magazine.
